Welcome.

Michael graduated with Honours from Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art in Dundee in 1982, using the opportunity to work in a variety of artistic fields. During his time at DJCA he won the prestigious Johnson Matthey Metal Awards for a place setting of cutlery which he designed and made in silver, and which is still retained as an example by the College.
After leaving Art College, there followed a successful period of studio work within several well-respected advertising agencies, before setting up Hieroglyph Design, his own graphic design company, in 1992.
He has always kept his non-technical side alive by continual experimentation with other media. Although, his first love has always been painting. It’s his way of getting back to basics – a true, hands-on feeling, which keeps him in touch with the real essence of creativity. Landscape subjects, life studies, still life, and summer townscapes remain his favourite subjects. Most of the paintings are acrylic on canvas. He has a dynamic style influenced most by late 19th, early 20th Century, British and European artists.

His design work and paintings have been exhibited at:
